Breastfeeding

Diet while breastfeeding is as important as diet in pregnancy, as the mother produces food for another being, and usually needs more calories to do that than in pregnancy.  Breastfeeding is very important and has great benefits.  Some of these benefits are:

1.      Optimal nutrition: breast milk contains the right amounts of vital nutrients needed by the baby and helps the baby grow strong and healthy.

2.      Immunity: breastfeeding supplies the baby with antibodies, which in turn strengthen the baby’s immune system, making her less vulnerable to disease.

3.      Mother’s health and fitness: breastfeeding helps the uterus shrink back to normal, and helps prevent some forms of breast cancer.

4.      Birth control: full time breastfeeding is a 98% effective birth control method.

5.      Emotional: breastfeeding strengthens the bond between the mother and her baby and gives the baby a great sense of love and security.

6.      Convenience: breast milk doesn’t spoil, it’s always ready and at the right temperature, and it doesn’t involve any cleaning of bottles.
